Where to find rental properties online

Where to find rental properties online

Rightmove and Zoopla, and the others

If you are at the beginning of your search for the perfect home in London, you will surely have come across some of the main online platform properties, Rightmove and Zoopla.

The good news is, these are definitely the main ones to look at.

The trick with Rightmove and Zoopla is to check that a property advertised on the platform is actually still available, as agents do not have an obligation to remove their advert once the property has been let. The best way to do this is to call the agent…If you can’t reach them, try again – persistence is the best strategy here.

Is there a difference between Rightmove and Zoopla?

Not really – there are some search functionalities that are ever so slightly different, but many estate agents will advertise the same properties on both platforms.

Are there any other websites for rental properties?

There are other websites, which we have listed below, but Rightmove and Zoopla will show a very large majority of the properties for rent through estate agents, which themselves advertise a majority of the rental market.

OpenRent

This is where landlords (property owners) advertise their properties directly, without going through an estate agent. There are benefits and drawbacks – sometimes property owners are very responsive, sometimes they are not, particularly if they work during the day, you might only hear back from them in the evenings and the weekends. But sometimes having a direct contact to a property owner can be a benefit, particularly if they like you as a potential tenant.

Gumtree

This is a massive website with all types of adverts. We do not recommend using this website for property adverts. This is because there are no checks operated on the advertisers.
