A quick look at the percentage of Ofsted-rated outstanding schools in each local authority in England reveals that London is leading the way.

Four London boroughs rank in the top ten areas in the country with the highest percentage of schools ranked outstanding by the schools’ watchdog: Kensington and Chelsea, Richmond upon Thames, Hammersmith and Fulham, and Sutton.

  • Kensington and Chelsea topped the national ranking with 67% of schools in the area rated outstanding by Ofsted. Hammersmith and Fulham has the fourth highest amount (46%), with Richmond upon Thames (45%) and Sutton (42%) in fifth and eighth place respectively.
  • Kensington and Chelsea has the highest percentage (60%) of outstanding primary schools, followed by Richmond upon Thames (52%), with Hammersmith and Fulham (43%) in fourth place.
  • With a perfect score of 100%, Kensington and Chelsea has the highest percentage of outstanding secondary schools in the country.

This confirms the UK capital’s status as the best place to live for top-rated schools in England.
