London’s best sixth form colleges

These educational institutions, which represent the final 1-3 years of secondary education, bridge the gap between school and university or the world of work, depending on the students’ chosen path.

The best sixth form colleges in London

1. Brampton College (Hendon)

Brampton College is a co-educational independent day school for students aged between 15 and 19, specialising in A-levels.

It has been the highest achieving sixth form college in London for the last 19 years according to the Department for Education (DfE) and came 3rd nationally in the 2020 DfE performance table. High praise indeed!

2. London Academy of Excellence (Stratford)

The London Academy of Excellence (LAE) is a selective free school sixth form college.

Since being established in 2012, LAE has rapidly developed into one of the UK’s leading state sixth form colleges, consistently achieving some of the best results, not just in London but in the UK. In 2019, 99% of all grades were A*- C, with A the average grade.

3. Ashbourne College (Kensington)

Founded in 1981, Ashbourne College remains one of the highest performing private sixth form colleges in London.

They pride themselves on their exam success, individual attention and superb location. All of which combines to inspire 54% of its graduates to achieve places at Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

4. Newham Sixth Form College (Newham)

Based in the heart of East London, Newham Sixth Form College has an impressive record of achieving outstanding results year-on-year.

Standout A-Level subjects include Computer Science, French, Further Maths and Spanish, in which 100% of students achieved A* – C grades in 2019; while the largest number of A*- A grades were achieved in Biology, Chemistry, and Maths.

5. Westminster City School Sixth Form (Westminster)

Westminster City School is a Christian foundation secondary school for boys, with a mixed sixth form. Just a short walk from Buckingham Palace, it combines a great location with an even better education.
