The best French schools in London

If you’re moving to London and you’re determined for your child to receive a French education, you won’t struggle to find the perfect school. London is home to 420 French educational institutions – some independent and some partially funded by the French Education Ministry.

Let’s explore five of the most highly-rated French schools in London.

1. Lycée Français Charles De Gaulle school

The Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle – often referred to as the Lycée or the French Lycée – is a French co-educational primary and secondary independent day school, situated in South Kensington – traditionally a French enclave due to its proximity to the embassy. The school offers pupils aged 3 to 18 the option of programmes established by the French Ministry of Education or a British curriculum, across its main site and three other primary school sites: André Malraux, Marie d’Orliac and Wix.

2. Ecole André Malraux

Subject to the authority of the French Education Abroad, André Malraux delivers French educational programmes alongside a quality language project based on reinforced teaching of the English language. The school welcomes 250 children aged 3 to 10, from kindergarten to CM2, in Ealing, West London – who typically go on to attend its parent school: the Lycée Charles de Gaulle.

3. Lycée International de Londres Winston Churchill

The school – which was rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted for its Sixth Form and for Personal Growth and Welfare – occupies a beautiful 5-acre campus in Brent, north London, comprising 12,000 square metres of refurbished and purpose-built teaching spaces for students ages 3-18 years. The wellbeing and intellectual development of each student are at the heart of every lesson, in preparation for the French Baccalauréat, the Baccalauréat with OIB (Option Internationale du Baccalauréat) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

4. College Français Bilingue de Londres (CFBL)

Located near Hampstead, CFBL provides a French-English bilingual education to 700 students aged 3 to 15 years. The school prides itself on offering the best of French educations before students typically move on to a French Lycée in London (the Lycée International Winston Churchill or the Lycée Charles de Gaulle), another school in France or a school overseas.

5. Ecole française de Londres Jacques Prévert

Located in the Brook Green district of west London, this independent primary school welcomes around 260 children from the middle section of kindergarten to CM2. The school is subject to the authority of the French Ministry of Education and the French Embassy in London and follows the French national education system. It is inspected annually by the French inspectorate, with the latest report (February 2018) labelling the school ‘an outstanding success’.
